Taittinger Regatta

Posted 31 July 2016

With the Europeans only a few weeks away, many of the Plymouth fleet were busy preparing and so it was a small group of J24 who enjoyed fantastic conditions in Yarmouth.

The race officers had a tricky start with a lack of wind delaying the start but a light breeze filled in. The racing was close, with the tides playing their usual role but the competitive J24 fleet saw each of the 4 boats swapping places through the closely fought three races.

With the wind peaking at around 15 knots on Saturday and eventually climbing to 25 knots on Sunday as the racing finished, most competitors agreed that the generally light conditions over the weekend were strenuous with most classes completing two races on Day 1 and one race on Day 2.

With usual style, Duncan McCarthy and the Madeleine crew’s consistent performance saw them take the lead, with Jolly Roger in second, Wijit and Flying Colours closely following.

The Royal Solent Yacht Club, Champagne Taittinger and Charles Stanley are already making plans for the 2017 Taittinger Royal Solent Yacht Club Regatta – Date to follow
