The J/24 was designed in 1977 and was soon established as the world's most popular keel boat, which it has remained ever since. The class is established in nearly 40 countries with well over 100 active fleets. This 24' keelboat is normally sailed with 5 but can be sailed with 4 or 6 as long as the total crew weight is under the class 400kg limit.

Blue skies and strong breezes greeted us the day after the end of these Championships, the final irony of a difficult week at the United States Capital of Sailing.

Brazilian Mauricio Santa Cruz, who earned the J/24 World Championship title in 2006 and 2007 only to be unseated last year by Italian Andrea Casale, has made it clear that he wants to get back to the top.
A weekend of frustrating conditions ended with a first win in a World Qualifier for Duncan McCarthy and the crew of Madeleine at the Fowey Trophy J/24 Open Meeting this weekend.
Later this month, for the very first time, Barbados will be represented at the J24 Worlds, a world class sailing event in the USA.
Annapolis, Maryland will host one of the toughest fleets of J/24 racers ever assembled in the boat’s 30 year history. The 2009 World Championship, hosted by Annapolis Yacht Club, April 30th – May 8th, already has 78 entries from eighteen countries.
After many years of limitations on sail cloth, the Class has approved the use of woven and/or laminated ply material of either polyester, HMPE or aramid fibers in the construction of Class genoas.
